USDA Certified Biobased Paper for Renewable Packaging

USDA certified biobased paper for renewable packaging is ideal as it helps you prevent corrosion and minor physical abuse on metal parts.

Renewable Packaging

Imposed bans and higher taxes on plastic bags have made business difficult for many industries that must package metal parts and ensure corrosion protection.

Cortec® Corporation manufactures VCI USDA certified biobased packaging papers which are economical and environmentally friendly.

These biobased renewable packaging papers utilise patented VpCI Corrosion Inhibitor Technology to protect sensitive metal parts (precision parts, auto parts, etc.) from corrosion (rusting) or exposure to grease and moisture.

The two primary VCI biobased packaging papers are:

  • CorShield® VpCI®-146 – standard VCI and creped papersEcoShield®.
  • EcoShield® and EcoShield® VpCI®-144 papers.

Corrosion Protection (Rust) Using USDA Certified CorShield® VpCI®-146

The range of CorShield VpCI Papers provide a more sustainable and economical way of packaging metal parts. Being one of Cortec® Corporation’s flagship products, the CorShield® VpCI®-146 further protects against rusting and is recyclable.

Apart from offering protection against rusting, the CorShield® VpCI®-146 is an ideal packaging paper because it prevents minor physical damage. These minor physical damages are physical abuses such as nicks, abrasion, and scratches.

Cortec® manufactures two versions of the CorShield® VpCI®-146;

  • Creped – used to protect metal parts from corrosion by “clothing” the metal parts.
  • Standard –CorShield® VpCI®-146 is a VCI sheet of paper that can either be perforated, non-perforated, or pre-cut. However, a user can place a custom order.

It would be best if industries or companies would consider using the CorShield® VpCI®-146 as it is more environmentally friendly (92% USDA-certified Biobased product).

It meets the regulations set by the USDA BioPreferred Program that requires federal purchases to have a certain amount of biobased products.

Corrosion Protection, Moisture, and Grease Barrier Using USDA Certified Biobased EcoShield® VpCI®-144
The EcoShield® VpCI®-144 is another outstanding USDA-certified biobased moisture and grease barrier from Cortec® Corporation. In addition, it also protects parts from corrosion. Using EcoShield® VpCI®-144 is way more beneficial than traditional methods of blocking grease and moisture.

Traditional methods of blocking moisture and grease require using polythene or wax to prevent corrosion and block moisture and grease. This method is highly uneconomical and is not recyclable because wax and polythene are inorganic.

A key benefit of using the EcoShield® VpCI®-144 is that it is recyclable, just like the CorShield® VpCI®-146. It also meets the regulations set out by USDA BioPreferred Program for federal purchases (69% USDA-certified Biobased Product).

Moisture and Grease Recyclable Barrier Using – EcoShield® for Renewable Packaging
Some industries or companies do not need protection from corrosion, for example, in food packaging (foods that are either fatty, dry, or aqueous). It would be best for them to use Cortec’s EcoShield®, a 65% USDA-certified biobased product.

Most industries that use EcoShield® do so to block moisture and grease that will degrade their products from getting inside a package.

In other words, EcoShield® is primarily used to block the entry of moisture and grease only. They do not protect the package from corrosion.

Conclusion
Using USDA-certified biobased VCI papers is vital as it helps avoid environmental degradation caused by pollution. There are two primary types of corrosion protection USDA-certified biobased VCI packaging papers:

  • CorShield® VpCI®-146 – both standard and creped (92% USDA certified biobased products).
  • EcoShield® – both EcoShield® and EcoShield® VpCI®-144 fall under USDA BioPreferred Program as they are both 69% and 65% USDA-certified biobased products, respectively.

The primary difference between EcoShield® VpCI®-144 and EcoShield® is that the former can offer corrosion protection and moisture & grease blockage. On the other hand, the latter can only offer blockage on moisture & grease.

Here’s the deal:
Both CorShield® VpCI®-146 and EcoShield®-VpCI®-144 (or EcoShield®) are great packaging options. In addition to being economical, they are also eco-friendly. Reach out to Cortec® for more information on which paper best suits your needs.
